Apostate on mother's day, or "I love my camera!"
So, today was a big "once every three years" event at Yaping's ancestral home where all the gods go out and visit each other. Ya-pings family (the whole extended family) has been putting insane pressure on her to have us go, so as part of my mother's day gift I sacrificed myself, went out to brave the heat and noise and crowds with my trusty camera, while Ya-ping slept in. That way, her extended family was happy because I went as family representitive (this anscestral home is a two hour drive away, and they've already seen Preston, but not me) and she was happy because she didn't have to go. Only I wasn't excited. So, I got there, and realized I had forgotten to charge my camera battery, and the low battery light came on before I took my first picture. So I was a little worried, but I shouldn't have doubted my camera. It did eventually fail, after I had taken ~400 (literally) pictures and had already returned home. I love my camera. And it wasn't too hot either, relatively speaking, so I actually quite enjoyed myself skipping church to be a bhuddist/daoist/whatever (Oma and Opa, before you start worrying, this was a really big deal to Yaping's family and we decided that in this case is was more important to show respect and love for her family than for me to go to church this week, I'm sure you understand). It was a very interesting event, and I've blogged only a small portion our pictures.

Great pictures. We know how it is when there is a need to honor parents, etc. We had that experience several times with our families. Thank you for being who you are.
OK. I need some more explanations of what is going on. I didn't quite catch it. What I gather is that this is a celebration that comes every three years in honor of your ancestors, so a big family reunion? They have a big parade and they act out things. People pray and offer incense at the temples. I don't know a lot about Daoism or Buddhism. Is all of this a part of that. Enlighten me.
